Born in Calcutta, India, Malika Ghosh Garrett received her Bachelor of FineArts in Visual Arts from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA.
Malika has enjoyed her love of painting and creative expression since she was a child. Malika’s approach to her work is very instinctive and she is constantly experimenting. Malika’s primary subjects are the simple everyday lives of rural India and its people. She photographs her subjects during her travels to her native home in India.
Her paintings speak of her desire for human connection and her meetings with some wonderful and resilient people. Her work is about bright colors and many of her subjects are from the alluring desert region of Rajasthan, making her work full of vibrant yellows, reds, greens and bright pinks. Candid images and powerful memories are the essence of the artist’s works. Malika thinks in color and believes in artist Renoir's words when he said “Why shouldn’t art be pretty?There are enough unpleasant things in the world!” Her work is a mix of modernism and abstract expressionism rooted in Indian tradition.
Malika is also an aspiring writer and has a successful 25 + year corporate career in sales and marketing. She has been a featured speaker at Schools and Universities around the world including Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia State University and the Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta. Malika is committed to pursue her passion and love for painting and manages her family, business and art career well.
Malika lives and works out of her Alpharetta, GA studio and home. On her creative process, Malika explains, "The images on my paintings come mostly from my personal experiences and I try to reveal what I have seen. Joy expresses itself in the form of bold colors. With my art, I celebrate life and experience quiet power, tranquility and purpose.”
Malika’s work is part of many private collections in India, Singapore, UK,Australia, China and USA.
